Dr. Laura Chen spent the majority of her childhood in Cary, NC and graduated from Green Hope High School. She then earned a BS in Biology and minor in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her time in undergrad, she founded the Carolina Pre-Optometry Association and worked as an optometric intern at a private practice in Chapel Hill.
Dr. Chen received her Doctorate of Optometry at the Southern California College of Optometry, graduating summa cum laude. Her clinical externships included the University Eye Center at Los Angeles, Travis Air Force Base, Ketchum Health in Anaheim, CA, and Orange County Retina. She also spent time on missions trips providing eye exams and glasses to underserved communities in Mexico.
Following optometry school, she completed a residency at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. There she provided optometric care to veterans and gained further experience in ocular disease management, TBI vision evaluations, and low vision evaluations.
Dr. Chen is excited to move back to the Triangle area with her husband (who also grew up in Cary, NC) and to provide eye care services to this community. In her spare time she loves to travel, cook new recipes, try new restaurants, and teach tricks to her cat.
Dr. Misa Sueyoshi is originally from San Diego, California. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in Biology from Point Loma Nazarene University before venturing into the field of pre-clinical research in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her passion for eye care led her to Philadelphia, where she completed her Doctorate of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where she served as class president and contributed to the North Carolina Optometric Student Association.
Dr. Sueyoshi trained in the Triangle area with the goal to practice in North Carolina. She loves working with patients of all ages and is passionate about keeping them educated on their eye health. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina Optometric Society.
In her downtime, Dr. Sueyoshi, along with her fiancé, calls Durham home. Her interests include painting, baking, and home improvement projects.
Dr. Monica Ma was raised right here in the 27519 zip code of Cary, NC. She graduated from William G. Enloe High School in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in Biology and Psychology. After college, Dr. Ma obtained another bachelor of science in Visual Science and her Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. In school, she was active in many extracurricular activities, including community service and received clinical honors multiple semesters. At graduation, Dr. Ma received additional awards for her level of clinical excellence.
It has been a long time goal for Dr. Ma to return to North Carolina and practice optometry in the state that she grew up in. Prior to founding Parkside Eye Care, Dr. Ma worked at a private practice in rural North Carolina for five years. She feels excited and blessed for the opportunity to serve the local community through excellent eye care. Dr. Ma specializes in glaucoma evaluations, dry eye evaluations, iLux treatment, and pediatric eye care for children of all ages. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina Optometric Society.
Dr. Ma and Dr. Reynon married shortly after optometry school and are parents to two wonderful little girls. They reside here in West Cary.
Dr. Jonathan Reynon, OD was raised in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from the University of Maryland, majoring in Neurobiology and Physiology. Before attending optometry school, Dr. Reynon was an ophthalmic technician at The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University, where he learned from some of the most innovative surgeons in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Reynon went on to earn his Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, receiving honors for clinical excellence. His training primarily focused on primary care optometry and ocular disease. Dr. Reynon’s rotations and specialty training included Katzen Eye Group in Towson, Maryland, the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, and Eye Care Associates in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dr. Reynon specializes in Keratoconus and Difficult to Fit and Medically Necessary Contact Lenses, Myopia Management and Ortho-K, and Diabetic Eye Care. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina Optometric Society.
Outside of work, Dr. Reynon enjoys playing sports, cheering for his favorite sports teams, and spending time with his wife and two young daughters. Dr. Reynon is proud to consider Cary, NC his new home.
